Goals

Turn a goal into something you can do next.

MossyMind limits the active horizon, shows progress, and keeps the selected goal’s steps close to Today.

MossyMind mobile goals view showing four active goals, a selected goal, its progress ring, and concrete steps.
Real product view: four active directions remain visible while one selected goal exposes its concrete steps. The example goals are fictional.

A goal such as “get healthier” or “launch the project” names a direction, not an action. MossyMind keeps up to four active goals and up to ten visible steps per goal. The limits are intentional: enough room for direction without building a second backlog above the task list.

Keep the active horizon small

Four active goals create a visible ceiling. When the space is full, add a step to an existing goal, complete a direction, or remove one before starting another. This does not decide what matters; it protects the daily desk from unlimited aspiration.

Write steps as observable actions

“Research options,” “call the clinic,” and “draft the first page” are easier to start than “make progress.” A useful step begins with a verb and ends with something you could recognize as done.

Use progress as orientation, not pressure

The progress ring reports completed steps out of total steps. It does not compare people, create a streak, or guess how hard each step was. A completed step is information about direction, not a measure of worth or productivity.

Bring only the next step into Today

A goal can stay broad while its next action becomes a task. Resist copying every possible project step into the daily board. Move the smallest step that actually deserves attention now.

Use it in MossyMind

Move one goal step into the day

  1. Create a goal that names a direction and a recognizable finish condition.
  2. Add a few verb-led steps rather than a complete project plan.
  3. Select the goal to review its progress and current steps.
  4. Complete, delete, or add a step as the direction changes.
  5. Create a Today task for the one step that deserves attention now.
